What Can NDIS Plan Managers See in My Plan?

A group of people placing their hands together in a circle, symbolising trust, teamwork, and NDIS support

It's a fair question. You're handing over a big chunk of your NDIS funding to someone you've probably never met, and you want to know: what can NDIS plan managers see in my plan? Do they get a window into your medical history? Your personal goals? Your address?

Short answer: they can see your plan budgets and line items, but not your personal background or medical records. Let's walk through exactly what's visible and what's not โ€” because knowing this stuff helps you feel more in control.

What your plan manager can actually see

When you sign on with a plan manager, the NDIS gives them access to a portal called the myplace provider portal. Through this, they can see:

That's pretty much it. They're not reading your planning meeting notes or scrolling through your NDIS application.

What your plan manager can't see

This is where a lot of people breathe a sigh of relief. Your plan manager does not have access to:

Honestly, we get this question a fair bit โ€” and we're always glad people ask. Your NDIS plan is deeply personal. You deserve to know who sees what.

๐Ÿ’ก Key point: Your plan manager sees the financial side of your plan โ€” budgets, line items, and payment history. They don't see your medical records, goals, or personal background. The system is designed to separate clinical information from financial administration.

Why do they need to see budgets and line items?

Good question. Plan managers can't do their job without this info. To pay your providers and make sure you're not burning through your funding faster than expected, they need to know:

Think of it like giving your accountant access to your bank statements โ€” not your diary. They need the numbers to keep things running, not the personal story behind them.

What about your support coordinator and the NDIA?

It's worth knowing that different people in your NDIS circle have different levels of access:

If you're still figuring out the difference between these roles, we wrote a whole article on support coordination vs plan management that breaks it down.

What if I want my plan manager to know more?

Totally your call. Some participants choose to share their goals or a bit of personal context with their plan manager โ€” it can help build a better working relationship. For example, if you tell us you're working toward living independently, we can help you keep an eye on the budgets most relevant to that goal.

But it's entirely optional. Nothing in the system forces you to share anything beyond what the portal already shows.

Can you see what your plan manager is doing?

Yep. You can log into the myplace participant portal at any time to check your plan balances and see what invoices have been processed. It's your plan โ€” you should be able to keep tabs on it. If anything looks off, you can always ask your plan manager to explain. A good one will be happy to walk you through it.

Switching plan managers โ€” does my info carry over?

If you decide to switch plan managers (which you can do at any time, by the way), the new plan manager gets the same portal access โ€” budgets, line items, dates. No history of conversations with your old plan manager, no notes, no personal data. Just the plan itself.

If you're thinking about switching, we've got a guide on how to switch plan managers that walks through the whole process.

The bottom line

Plan management is designed to be a financial administration role โ€” not a clinical or personal one. Your plan manager sees the numbers, not your story. And if you ever want to know exactly what's happening in your plan, the portal is there for you.
